Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) is the literary standard across the Middle East, North Africa and the Horn of Africa, and is one of the six official languages of the United Nations. Arabic is the official language of 22 countries and every country has its own unique Arabic dialect. Arab countries use MSA in news broadcasts, legal documents, official speeches, books, and newspapers. Arabic speakers amount to approximately 290 million people, making around 4.23% of the world population.

Here are 20 common Modern Standard Arabic words and phrases you should know; 

      Transliteration – Arabic                       English

Sabaah alkhayr – صباح الخير Good morning
Masaa’ alkhayr – مساء الخير Good evening
Tusbih äalaa khayr – تصبح على خير Good night
Kayfa Haluk? – كيف حالك؟ How are you?
Anaa bikhayr shukran – أنا بخير شكرا I’m fine, thank you
Ana saeid jiddaan bilaqayik –

 انا سعيد جدا بلقائك

I am very glad to meet you
Maa ismuk? – ما اسمك؟ What is your name?
Ismii Joseph – اسمي يوسف My name is Joseph
Shukran – شكرا Thank you
Min fadlik – من فضلك Please
Aläafw – عفوا Excuse me 
Ealaa alrahab w alsiea –

 على الرحب و السعة
