Corsican is the beautiful language of Corsica and is also spoken in Sardinia (Italy). After being annexed by France, French became the official language in Corsica, and French mixed with Italian and Corsican traditions. Contrary to popular misconceptions, Corsican is not a dialect of French. It is an Indo-European language of Romance or Latin origin, influenced by Tuscan. Corsu, or Corsican, is spoken by the local Corsicans and is quite similar to Italian. Although it was originally oral with no written language, Corsican currently follows the Latin script.
